Several weeks ago, we laid out Quick Tips for Avoiding Home Invasions . In that post, we outlined the advantages of dropping traditional phone lines for communication and going to an IP/ GSM (cellular dialer). Recently in the Minneapoilis metro area, a rash of high-end home invasions has helped hammer home this point.
According to Kare 11, “All of the crimes involved forced entry, outside telephone or alarm lines were cut in two instances . . . ” With a traditional phone line system, even an IP system, once those lines are cut, the system can’t communicate out; no communication, no police.
communicator. If the IP / Internet lines are cut, the GSM dials out over cell signal. No cords to cut.
As an added feature, through GSM, you can add Total Connect. This is the future of home security, allowing you to arm and disarm your system from any smart device.
A typical monthly monitoring contract is $25-$35 per month depending on features, for an additional $5.00 per month you can monitor a cellular dialer. Don’t waste your money on a system that can be compromised. Lets cut the cord!
Often times security systems are designed around a specific goal; “I want to keep everyone out of this IT room except for the following people . . . ” or “I need to capture the license plate at this entry point” As a customer, it is your right to force your integrator get as specific as possible throughout the design. You are most likely going to spend tens of thousands of dollars on an initial install of an intrusion, fire monitoring, access control or surveillance system, you want it to look the way you want in the end.
A good integrator, or provider, will be able to unequivocally quantify the end result for you. If you tell your integrator you want to see a face through a door, that integrator should be able to provide the pixels per foot needed to get a usable face shot. If you want to restrict people into an area, your integrator should be able to put together an access control solution that will restrict those points of entry.
If your design / integrator / sales contact is vague, how precise will your end system then be? Get Specific, Get Results!
Well this last week we actually purchased a 2gig intrusion panel. I do have to say I was pretty impressed with the ease of use. Not only was a simple panel to program, but it looks good!! It has a touch screen (color) and it comes with Z wave technology so you can use a key fob to turn lights on and off. Not to mention you can also use a remote to lock and unlock a sexy looking deadbolt!! Ok Honeywell and DSC you better catch up!! We are a Honeywell integrator but they need to get on their horse and come up with a product for the residential market that isn’t irrelevant.
USA Security is a family owned national security integrator. We are a commercial and residential security provider that strives to keep our technology on the cutting edge and our service leaps and bounds above our competition. We have some pretty cool and fun systems to use at the office or at home, making security more of a management tool than it has been in the past.
